Monument Ave is the city’s chargé d’affaires
The rare air of on purpose real estate wealth
A lyrical legacy of no place like home and you’re
About to become a practical and practiced Fan

And my afternoon paper route was the Cary Town
Strip. And the Byrd Theater I’d sneak into. But come
Autumn I ‘d soak in the cool of Monument Ave environs
And escape the envelope of abandonment on my way
Home to cook dinner for my siblings…

And on my morning paper route I’d often find me some
Chocolate milk and a new reason to skip school .
